Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees is the governing body of Business Professionals of America. It includes a diverse group of educators, industry professionals, and leaders who oversee the strategic direction, budget, and assets of the organization.
To be considered by the Nominating Committee, a Nomination Form for a candidate must be submitted. Nominees must also submit a Nomination Acceptance Form with their written consent to serve, two (2) letters of reference, and documentation of qualifications. All nomination acceptances must be submitted via the online form provided below.
A nominee’s online submission will include:
- A complete Nomination Acceptance & Consent to Serve Form documenting the nominee’s qualifications
- Two (2) letters of reference (maximum) in PDF format – no additional letters of reference will be accepted
Note: Documentation of qualifications is considered completion of the answers to the questions on the Nomination Acceptance & Consent to Serve Form.
All nomination items must be submitted online together at one time by 5:00 PM ET on March 15, 2025.
After this date, the Nominating Committee will verify the candidates’ qualifications and determine eligibility. The names and qualifications of all candidates meeting eligibility requirements will be distributed to the Corporate members fourteen (14) days prior to the Annual Corporate Meeting at NLC.<
Those who do not submit the necessary nomination items by the March 15 deadline may be nominated from the floor provided that the candidate complies with the eligibility requirements and submits their Nomination Acceptance & Consent to Serve Form, two (2) letters of reference, and documentation of qualifications. This must be received no later than fourteen (14) days prior to the Annual Corporate Meeting by completing the same form linked below. Nominations received through this time period will be distributed to the corporate members seven (7) days prior to the Annual Corporate Meeting.
Note: In 2025, this deadline date is April 27, 2025. The Annual Corporate Meeting will be held on May 11, 2025.
The four (4) board positions that are up for election this year include:
- State Advisor Representative: The key individual within the State Association who handles the day-to-day operation of the State Association, national’s primary contact within the state.
- Alumni Representative: The Alumni representative shall be any former student division member who is an alumni member.
- Business Representative: An individual representing the business community.
- NBAC Representative: An individual representing the business community who is appointed by the Board Chair and approved by National Business Advisory Council. The member of NBAC shall serve as the liaison between the Board of Trustees and NBAC.
The nominating and election process is governed by the procedures outlined in the BPA Code of Regulations as follows:
Article VII. Board of Trustees
Section 3. Nominating Committee and Nominations
A. The Corporate members shall elect a Nominating Committee. The Nominating Committee shall consist of two (2) Board members, two (2) Corporate members, and one (1) National Business Advisory Council member. The two Corporate members and one National Business Advisory Council member shall not be current Board members.
B. In order to be considered by the Nominating Committee, candidates must submit a nomination acceptance form with their written consent to serve, two letters of reference, and documentation of qualifications via the BPA website portal no later than March 15.
C. The Nominating Committee shall verify the candidates’ qualifications and determine eligibility.
D. The names and qualifications of all candidates meeting eligibility requirements shall be electronically distributed to the Corporate members no less than 14 days prior to the Annual Corporate Meeting.
E. Additional nominations may be made from the floor provided: candidates comply with the eligibility requirements and documentation requirements prescribed in Section 3B of this Article has been received by the Chair of the Nominating Committee no later than fourteen (14) days prior to the Annual Corporate Meeting and distributed to the corporate members no later than seven (7) days prior to the Annual Corporate Meeting.
Section 4. Elections and Appointments.
A. Elected Members. Members of the Board of Trustees shall be elected by the Corporate members attending the Annual Corporate Meeting. With the exception of the President of the Post-secondary and Secondary Divisions, ex-officio members, and appointed members, in order to serve on the Board of Trustees, individuals must have at least five years of experience or membership in BPA.
B. Appointed Members. The Board Chair shall appoint the National Business Advisory Council representative after consultation with the National Business Advisory Council. The NBAC representative shall serve a three-year term as indicated in Section 5B of this Article.
C. Post-secondary and Secondary Division Presidents. The members of their respective divisions shall elect the Presidents of the Post-secondary and Secondary Divisions.
